LASIK surgery is the latest corneal surgery technique for vision correction. To correct your vision, first the thin corneal flap needs to be created. The flap, remaining hinged on one side, is then lifted back uncovering the stroma, or middle section, of the cornea. Another laser – the Excimer Laser – then reshapes the cornea changing its focusing power permanently. The flap is then laid back down and stays in position until healing is completed.
Machanical microkeratome flap creation
In conventional LASIK, a mechanical instrument known as a Microkeratome has been used to create this flap. A mechanical blade is required to make an incision in the top layer of the corneal tissue prior to the correction itself. Millions of such corneal flaps have already been created using this technique. Although these instruments are accurate, safe and reliable, there is a greater degree of variability in the thickness of the flap created. Precise flap thickness is important for eye health and safety. Apart from that, many people decide not to undergo this procedure because they are uncomfortable with the idea of their eyes being touch by a scalpel. At Laser Vision, our surgeons have carefully tracked the thousands of surgeries done with our Microkeratomes and are confident with their safety.
Laser-assisted flap creation
A new technology known as the Femtosecond Laser is now available to create the corneal flap. This means that no scalpel is involved in the procedure. This is a different laser system then is used to reshape the cornea. The femtosecond laser potentially increases accuracy and safety when creating the corneal flap. Over one million patients have already undergone bladeless laser eye surgery.
LV Signature LASIK: The future of bladeless laser surgery
If you are looking for accurate, safe, and comfortable laser refractive surgery, LV Signature LASIK is the procedure choice for you.
LV Signature LASIK is a completely different treatment in fundamental ways. This procedure is blade-free, all laser LASIK performed by LDV Femtosecond – the newest generation laser for creating an All-laser LASIK flap. No scalpel will touch your eyes. It creates a smoother flap and is easier for patient during surgery. Due to its unique hand-held laser delivery system, which is attached to an easily maneuverable articulated arm, patients can be treated on the patient bed of Excimer Laser and do not have to relocate between flap creation and ablation procedure as in the past with other Femtosecond. The surgeon can perform and control the entire procedure from a single working position, without having to move about or changing microscopes.
LDV Femtosecond solid-state laser system is a very low energy, ultra fast and highly accurate laser that is precisely focused on a specific layer of the cornea. Millions of microscopic laser pulses are painlessly applied in less than 30 seconds separating the corneal layers creating a flap with minimal inflammation.

The design of flap made by LDV Femtosecond allows it to reposition accurately and heal quickly after treatment. This results in a very healthy, stable cornea with less risk of flap displacement during the initial weeks after surgery.
As to the conventional Microkeratome, the LDV Femtosecond provides better control of flap thickness. For some patients, especially those with thinner corneas, the flap thickness is very important. LV Signataure LASIK is ideal for patients with high amounts of nearsightedness, large pupils, moderate to high amount of astigmatism and thin corneas, since the flap is uniform in thickness and the size and thickness can be accurately programmed into the laser before the procedure. Furthermore, there may also be less risk in creating a flap in an eye with an unusual contour or those corneas at risk for complications secondary to prolonged dryness or contact lens wear.
Unlike other Femtolaser, LDV Femtosecond’s low energy and high speed reduces inflammation and corneal swelling allowing for a more rapid and comfortable visual recovery. The LDV Femtosecond flap may also heal more quickly than those created with other lasers and be easier to lift if-retreatment is necessary for improved vision.

LV Signature LASIK is a true advance in vision correction surgery. Patient can enjoy a faster recovery time, less post-operative discomfort and better results than ever before. The femtosecond laser eliminates the most serious risks associated with the LASIK procedure. It is an advance in accuracy and safety which should eliminate the glasses or contact lenses.
LV Signature LASIK allows us to offer the highest quality refractive surgical experience. During your initial evaluation, your doctor will discuss whether LV Signature LASIK is right for you.
