Treatment of Presbyopia |

 |
People over 40 years old gradually lose the ability to change focus from distance to near. This condition is called Presbyopia and comes from a loss of flexibility of the lens inside the eye, as well as other age-related changes. This is a gradual change throughout life but not usually noticeable until the mid-forties. Although we may call this reading vision. It is the vision we use for eating, putting on makeup, or reading a watch or computer.
Reading glasses and contact lenses are used by many for the temporary treatment of Presbyopia. However, there are a number of vision correction procedures that can surgically reduce or eliminate the effects of Presbyopia.
The first FDA approved procedure for presbyopia is Near Vision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) In this treatment, radio waves gently strengthen the focusing power of the eye to give back the ability to read. It is a painless, 3 minute procedure that is performed in Laser Vision with just eyedrop anesthesia. The results are immediate. Most people only need treatment of one eye to produce blended vision. With blended vision you use both eyes to see together at all distances.
Some presbyopic patients like NV LASIK, which allows them to see distance clearly in one eye and close-up clearly with the other eye.
The last frontier in presbyopic refractive surgery is Presby LASIK. Presby LASIK is considered as the 1st All-in-One Correction for shortsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and Old-Age reading problem, which provides presbyopic patient with both satisfactory reading and distance vision with the newly advanced PAC software (Pseudo Accommodative cornea). |
