near vision ck

Currently, more than 90 million people suffer from this common of vision disorders. If youre afraid of surgery, but still want to temporarily reduce your dependence on reading glasses or other corrective lenses, Near Vision CK may be the right choice for you. Its a quick procedure with no cutting involoved. You dont even have to go to an outpatient surgery center. It can be performed in as little as 3 minutes.

At Laser Vision, we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to see the world again as you once did! Always at the forefront of advanced vision technology, we proudly present ..Near Vision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) a breakthrough procedure in vision improvement technology. With CK, you can turn back the hands of the clock and reduce your dependence on reading glasses for another 3-5 years.

Near Vision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) has been proven to be a safe and effective alternative to laser surgery. In fact, Near Vision CK is performed using the first technology appoved by the FDA for improving near vision in patient over 40 who are tired of their reading glasses.

how near vision ck works?

Near Vision CK is an exciting new procedure originally approved by the FDA to correct mild to moderate farsightedness. It is also being used in the treatment of presbyopia. Near Vision CK changes how the eye focuses light by reshaping the cornea using radiofrequency (RF) energy instead of a laser or scalpel.

Near Vision CK is performed using a small probe, thinner than a strand of human hair, that releases radio waves. This probe is applied in a circular pattern on the outer cornea to shrink small areas of collagen. This circular shrinkage pattern creates a constrictive band (like the tightening of a belt), increasing the overall curvature of the cornea.

Radiofrequency (RF) energy is one of todays most advanced surgical techniques. Conductive Keratoplasty isnt the only use of radiofrequency energy in medicine. Doctors have been safely using this technology in prostate cancer therapy, back surgery, even cardiovascular procedures since the 1950s

The roadmap to your freedom of seeing near object

Before the procedure

First, if you have an interest in Near Vision CK, you will need to have a preoperative examination to determine of your eye is healthy and suitable for CK. This examination will include a complete medical and eye history, and a complete evaluation of both eyes. It will take about 2-3 hours for the detail data of:

  1. Corneal thickness and corneal curvature by Orbscan and OPDScan
  2. Pupil diameter by Infrared Pupillometer
  3. Manifest refraction before the pupil dilatation with refractionist
  4. Measure ability to read up close
  5. Dilate the pupil
  6. Cycloplegic refraction after the pupil dilatation with refractionist
  7. Work up examination and discuss with our refractive surgeon

How the procedure is performed

The three minutes Near Vision CK procedure uses radio waves to bring near vision back into focus, wihout cutting or removing any tissue. The process is:

  1. Your eye will be numbed with powerful eye drop anesthetic to ensure a painless procedure. A small, gentle eyelid holder will be placed between your eyelids to keep you from blinking during the procedure.

  2. A circular treatment pattern is imprinted on the cornea using rinse-away ink to guide the doctors treatment. There will be 8 to 32 treatment points, depending on the amount of correction you need.

  3. Using a probe a pen-shaped instrument with a cool tip as thin as human hair, radiofrequency (RF) energy will be applied in a circular pattern on the outer cornea to shrink small areas of collagen. This pattern is applied in the periphery of the cornea and therefore minimizes interference with your line of sight.

  4. This circular treatment pattern creates a band of tightening that increases the overall curvature of the cornea to improve near vision.

Near Vision CK is considered painless. Once finished, you dont have to wear patches or bandages and can usually return to work the next day. You will be ask to return to our clinic again for 1st day follow up.

After the procedure

First day post procedure

With Near Vision CK, the majority of patients are able to return to work and other normal activities the day after their procedure. Although recovery period is fairly quick, it is advisable to be careful with your eyes and to avoid any strain. Those whose jobs demand intense clarity of vision (such as dentistry, surgery, or computer work) may want to give their eyes some extra rest for several days following the procedure before going back to work.

Near Vision CK is considered painless. After the procedure, there may be some mild discomfort, and many patients experience a foreign-object sensation or scratchiness in the eye. This usually subsides within 24 hours of the procedure.

First week post procedure

Be careful of getting water and dust in your eyes.
Do not rub your eyes.
Avoid make up, especially at the sensitive area around the eyes.

Blended Vision (Best of Both World)

Near Vision CK takes advantages of a technique called Blended Vision. Unlike monovision (where one eye is treated for near vision, leaving the untreated eye for distance vision). Blended Vision improves your ability to focus on near objects without dramatically affecting distance vision in the treated eye.

If you are sure whether blended vision is right for you, the doctor may be able to simulate this effect through trial lenses or contact lenses. Ultimately, it is much easier to adjust to blended vision following CK than with contact lenses.

The advantage with Near Vision CK is the the improvement in near vision comes with very little change in distance vision on the treated eye. It is similar to the sound you hear from stereo speakers. A different sound comes from each one, but they work together to provide the entire range of sound. That is what you want to happen with your vision.

Data collected in FDA clinical trials (12-month follow-up data) on the CK Blended Vision procedure have shown relatively little effect on depth perception or the ability to distinguish contrast under day and night conditions. After the Near Vision CK procedure:

  1. 98% of patients were able to read newspaper-size print without glasses . Whats more, Near Vision CK offered this improvement without affecting distance vision when using both eyes
  2. 87% of patients could see 20/20 at distance, as well as read phonebook-size print at near.
  3. 96% of patients were satisfied with their outcome.

As you can see from the clinical trial information below, Near Vision CK has the potential to reduce your need for reading glasses in a variety of everyday situations

Considerations

Benefit of Near Vision CK

Near Vision CK is an effective procedure that can bring your world back into focus. Its an exciting advancement in vision correction that offers new advantages such as:

  1. Near Vision CK uses controlled radio waves, instead of a laser or scalpel, to change the shape of the cornea and bring near vision back into focus.
  2. Near Vision CK is laser-free and extreme safe: There is no cutting and no removal of tissue which helps minimize the side effects and speed recovery.
  3. Near Vision is minimally invasive and painless.
  4. Near Vision is fast and convenience. The procedure is performed in under 3 minutes.
  5. Near Vision CK helps reducing your dependence on reading glasses.
  6. Near Vision CK helps increasing job opportunity and performance with better eyesight.

A Good Candidate for Near Vision CK

Youre likely a good candidate for Near Vision CK, if you:

  1. Be at least 40 years old of age.
  2. Have had good distance vision most of your life
  3. Are tired of the hassle of reading glasses
  4. Have healthy eye with no eye disease, corneal abnormality
  5. Be complete understanding of benefits and risks of Near Vision CK, and have realistic expectations of the outcomes.
  6. Are not pregnant or nursing.

Realistic Expectations

The decision to have Near Vision CK is an important one that only you can make. The goal of any refractive surgical procedure is to reduce your dependence on corrective lenses. However, we cannot guarantee you will have the results you desire.

CK is intented to reduce, but not totally eliminate the need for reading glasses. The goal is to improve your ability to perform many of your daily near tasks without reading glassess; for example, reading a menu, a magazine, your watch, or a business card, reading price tags at the store, dialing your cell phone, etc.

You may still occasionally need reading glasses for the most demanding near tasks such as reading bible-sized, threading a needle, or reading uninterrupted for many hours.

While Near Vision CK is described as turning back the clock on your near vision, the clock doesnt stop running. Thus, CK is not meant to last forever you may need more CK as your near vision naturally continues to weaken with age.

Serious complications with Near Vision CK are extremely rare. CK is a safe and effective procedure, but like any medical procedure, it does have some risks. After a thorough eye exam, you and the doctor will determine if CK is an option for you. If you are a good candidate, you will be given additional information about the procedure that will allow you to make an informed decision about whether to proceed. Be sure you have all your questions answered to your satisfaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question : Will my vision improve immediately after the Near Vision CK procedure?
Patients usually notice an immediate improvement in their vision after the Near Vision CK procedure. However, it usually takes several weeks for the eyes to adjust to the final level of treatment.

Question : Is Near Vision CK reversible?
As with most vision improvement procedures, Near Vision CK is not reversible. Once the procedure has been performed, it is not possible to remove its effects. This is an important factor for anyone thinking about undergoing a vision procedure to carefully consider. To make sure Near Vision CK is right for you, seek the advice of your doctor.

Question :
Does the procedure hurt?
Near Vision CK is considered painless. You will be aware of a support which helps to hold your eye open. The most common sensation that patients experience is a feeling of pressure on the eye. After the procedure, there may be some mild discomfort, and many patients experience a foreign-object sensation or scratchiness in the eye. This usually subsides within 24 hours of the procedure.

Question : Is Near Vision CK safe?
Near Vision CK is remarkably safe. Because the spots are placed around the periphery of your eye, there is never any treatment through the visual axis. And because there is no cutting and no tissue removal, there is no infection issue. The process is self-sterilizing.

Question : Are both eyes treated on the same day?

Near Vision CK is typically performed on just one eye. However, if a patients prescription requires treatment in both eyes, CK is typically performed on both eyes on the same day one eye immediately after the other. Most patients are comfortable having the CK procedure performed on both eyes on the same day because the procedure is minimally invasive, takes 3 minutes with only topical anesthesia.

Question : What are the risks and side effects of Near Vision CK? Because Near Vision CK is minimally invasive, the procedure has exhibited very minimal risk and almost no side effects. During the first 24 hours after CK, you may experience tearing and some discomfort, including a foreign-object sensation in the eyes. You may also experience initial slight over-correction of your vision, which stabilizes during the following weeks. However, because CK doesnt cut or remove tissue, many of the side effects associated with other vision treatment procedures have not been observed with CK.

Question : Am I guaranteed 20/20 vision following Near Vision CK?
No, And no honest doctor can absolutely guarantee a certain result from any vision treatment procedure. However, in the FDA clinical study, nearly 87% of patients had 20/20 vision while looking at objects on the distance using both eyes and were able to read phonebook-size print after having Near Vision CK (12 month follow-up data).

Question : Can Near Vision CK treat myopia (nearsightedness)?
Near Vision CK was designed for baby boomers who struggle to read menus, price tags, or see their computer symptoms of fading near vision which require a steepening of the cornea. CK is not designed for flatten the cornea, the effect required for the treatment of myopia.
