Cataract is usually found in group of people aging 55 years and above. It is a natural change that is caused by the cloudiness of the crystalline lens. It is causes an unclear vision just like looking through foggy glasses.
Laser Vision International LASIK center recommends you Phacoemulsification, an advanced and painless method of cataract removal. During cataract surgery, a tiny ultrasonic probe breaks up the cataract and draws it away. Because the incision required is only about 3 mm, this technique is often called small-incision surgery. It encourages rapid healing, and a fast return to full activity. The new lens remains permanently in place and is neither seen or felt by the patient. The lens restores the most natural vision available as well as good depth perception and full peripheral vision.
Patients who are interested in Phacoemulsification surgery need to go through a thorough preoperative eye examination to determine when to do the surgery and which type of Intra Ocular Lens should be used.
Phacoemulsification refers to a modern cataract surgery in which an ultrasonic device is used to break up and then remove a cloudy lens or cataract from the eye to improve vision. The insertion of a foldable Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) immediately follows Phacoemulsification, but the capsule of the lens is remained. No suture is needed in this surgery, since the wound is very tiny and the cornea heals itself automatically. Phacoemulsification is the standard treatment for the cataract surgery at Laser Vision
Phacoemulsification is widely used as it requires only a small incision, a fast treatment process, and no stitches. With this technique, the patients do not need to go under anesthesia, making this one of the safest treatments available.

The intraocular lens is an artificial lens made from a special material with plastic side struts, called haptics, to hold the lens in place. The lens is implanted inside the eye during cataract surgery, replacing the cloudy crystalline lens
Standard IOL is a normal lens, with a single focus. This lens helps you to focus at long distances, but you will still use reading glasses at a near distance.
Multifocal IOL is a lens with multi-circle, providing simultaneous view of both distance vision and near vision. The patient might need some period of time to adjust their vision.
Toric IOL can correct astigmatism, therefore, the patients with astigmatism after surgery, will no longer need the glasses.
The latest technique in cataract treatment involves the use of a Femtosecond Laser. This laser is used to reduce the time and effort required to create a small incision and break the lens, which makes it easier to emulsify and vacuum. The laser system is highly precise and enables the surgeon to create a circular incision on the lens epithelium capsule, which covers the lens. This makes it easier for the surgeon to place the lens at the most accurate angle during the treatment.
Using the Femtosecond laser to assist with cataract treatment can significantly improve precision and reduce post-operative complications. However, there are certain limitations to patient eligibility. Patients with corneal scarring and opaque black corneas, as well as those who cannot tolerate dilation drops, are not eligible for this method.
